  • I AM WORTH IT!!!!

Hooray for me! I have finished Curves Complete! It has given me a new perspective, new healthy habits and a new body I had only ever dreamed of!! I had two key phrases throughout this whole process. The first was "I AM worth it!" When things got tough or I really wanted to slack off, or give in to those old un-healthy habits, this got me through. And when the siren song of the chocolate box was singing to me my other phrase was "Is this really worth it?" and often I could say "No because I AM worth it!" I did not let a weak moment sabotage all my hard work!! It was hard work, but so worth it! I have lost 15 lbs, and 7.5 inches, and 3% body fat!! We were asked to set goals through this whole process and I had to keep re-setting mine! Initially I was sort of sceptical, would this work for me? I have never been "thin", and my body image has never been great. I have always been the chubby second fiddle. Well now, look out! I am wearing a size that I had only hoped for in my wildest dreams. I am NOT "thin". I am lean, toned and healthy! I have not "gone on a diet", I have just completed the first stage of educating myself to STAY trim, toned and healthy for a lifetime! Curves Complete is not an end in itself, but a doorway to a lifetime of having the body I have only dreamt of, the health I need and the positive attitude toward myself that I deserve. I am now ONE SVELTE MAMA! I did it because I AM WORTH IT!...and so are you!

My struggle with the scale began when I was 11. I started gaining weight and in spite of trying all kinds of diets, I never had any lasting success. My weight hit an all-time high of 300 lbs. during my last pregnancy and afterwards I found myself with low energy and feeling very unhealthy. I have a family history of heart disease and diabetes which are both related to obesity, so I knew I was risking my health if I didn’t take steps to get the extra pounds off. I decided to give Curves a try after seeing my friend’s success story posted on Curves’ Facebook page. I thought if she can do it, so can I. An all woman’s club was very appealing as I was not comfortable working out with men at the co-ed gyms I tried in the past.

To be honest, the hardest part of going to Curves was walking in the club for the first time. All my fears and doubts about my ability to accomplish my goals started to disappear in the friendly and supportive atmosphere of the Russellville Curves. I started first with Curves Fitness. The 30 minute workouts went by fast. Our coach was right there encouraging and guiding us on the correct form to get the most out of the workout. I continued doing the Curves circuit 3-5 times a week feeling stronger and working harder as my strength and endurance improved. Happily, I noticed another benefit of the circuit training. I began to slowly lose weight***. This was encouraging and I decided to enhance my membership with Curves Complete, which combines the fitness program with customized meal plans and one-on-one coaching and support. This comprehensive program was exactly what I needed to keep improving my fitness and to learn new healthy eating habits. Before long, I was snacking on strawberries, apples and low fat cheese instead of French Fries and chocolate. It wasn’t always easy passing up the junk food but my motto became “A lick on the lips is 5 on the hips!” I followed what I learned at Curves Complete to cook and eat healthy and delicious meals that kept the pounds coming off. I lost a total of 67lbs on Curves Fitness** and Curves Complete***! Not only do I have a trim waistline, I have also decreased my risk of the heart disease that runs in my family. My favorite bit of advice is to take time to change your habits when losing weight. The weight did not come on overnight and it won’t come off overnight either. Meeting with my Curves Complete coach helped me stay motivated to get to my weight loss goal. Now I am enjoying more energy, better moods, shopping for fun clothes and I am able to engage in a more active way with the family. It feels great being a healthy role model for my family and we are all eating more nutritious meals and enjoy active family outings like hiking in the nature reserve near our home.

I continue going to Curves regularly and absolutely love the new Jillian Michaels workout classes†! When I started her workouts, I couldn't do a push-up! I CAN now (boy push-up)!! I can’t decide on my favorite Jillian move. I love the plank jacks or maybe it’s the high knees or cross jacks! Okay so I love several! Sure some days are harder than others but once I push through it, I never regret it or my wonderful decision to join Curves Complete!

My struggles with weight began in childhood. I was always heavier than the other kids and was ridiculed and shunned because of it. Throughout the years, I’ve tried diet after diet with no lasting results. I first joined Curves after going through a really rough period in my life. Stress took a toll and I had essentially given up trying to lose weight. I was eating whatever I wanted and I hardly exercised. My cousin had joined Curves and had positive results so I decided to give Curves Fitness a try. I started working out 3 times per week and started seeing changes within a month**. I felt better and had more energy. I then added Curves Complete to help me lose weight. Within six months, I had lost 25 pounds***but shortly after that I became pregnant. During my pregnancy, I worked out at Curves. I started back slowly after my son was born and was on track to my pre-pregnancy weight when I suffered a traumatic injury to my foot that left me non-weight bearing for nearly three months. By the time I was able to go back to my Curves Center, I’d lost a great deal of my strength and was heavier than I had ever been at 211 lbs. I dreaded stepping on the scale and I was still wearing my maternity pants because I couldn’t find jeans and pants that would fit. I felt like I was constantly judged by those around me and was fully aware that people looked at me in disgust. I couldn’t get up and down stairs without pain in my knees. I was often out of breath. I struggled chasing after my son. Something had to change. I knew I needed to lose 50 lbs. or more, but I didn’t dare tell anyone that. I didn’t want the inevitable roll of eyes or doubters to start criticizing me before I had even started. I started cutting out unhealthy snacks at work and trips to the vending machine, and then went back to the Curves Complete program again. I was now ready and motivated to make the changes I needed to lose weight and get myself healthy and fit again. Curves Complete is more than a diet plan. It is a lifestyle change. I learned to eat healthy food in the right way to lose weight, dispelling the myth that you have to starve yourself. It is also ok to indulge in treats in moderation but I stay on track by monitoring my weight. If I go up a few pounds, I then go on phase 1 of Curves Complete and bring it back down.***

I stuck to the meal plan and worked out at Curves at least 3x per week and lost a total of 80 lbs.*** The workouts at Curves and the Curves Complete meal plan gave me the tools to succeed. I provided the motivation, dedication and the mindset to achieve my goals. My Curves’ coaches encouraged and guided me along the way. I am now stronger, healthier, and more confident than I have ever been in my life. I’ve continued to challenge myself physically by adding Curves’ Jillian Michaels† classes and started running 5k races. I am training for my first 10K. I can chase after my son and I no longer have pain in my joints. People I don’t even know in my office building have stopped me and told me how great I look. If I can do this, anyone can. You just have to believe in yourself and be ready to do the work.
