Hooray for me! I have finished Curves Complete! It has given me a new perspective, new healthy habits and a new body I had only ever dreamed of!!
I had two key phrases throughout this whole process. The first was "I AM worth it!" When things got tough or I really wanted to slack off, or give in to those old un-healthy habits, this got me through. And when the siren song of the chocolate box was singing to me my other phrase was "Is this really worth it?" and often I could say "No because I AM worth it!" I did not let a weak moment sabotage all my hard work!! It was hard work, but so worth it!
I have lost 15 lbs, and 7.5 inches, and 3% body fat!! We were asked to set goals through this whole process and I had to keep re-setting mine! Initially I was sort of sceptical, would this work for me? I have never been "thin", and my body image has never been great. I have always been the chubby second fiddle.
Well now, look out! I am wearing a size that I had only hoped for in my wildest dreams. I am NOT "thin". I am lean, toned and healthy! I have not "gone on a diet", I have just completed the first stage of educating myself to STAY trim, toned and healthy for a lifetime! Curves Complete is not an end in itself, but a doorway to a lifetime of having the body I have only dreamt of, the health I need and the positive attitude toward myself that I deserve.
I am now ONE SVELTE MAMA! I did it because I AM WORTH IT!...and so are you!
I am a people pleaser, always eager to help everyone else but unfortunately put myself on the backburner for years
I joined Curves in the fall of 2010. I am not sure if it was because I was three months shy of my fortieth birthday or just new something had to change. I am a people pleaser, always eager to help everyone else but unfortunately put myself on the backburner for years. As a teen I was very active and kept that up through my early twenties. It wasn’t until after I had children that that so called baby weight never came off and in fact, got worse.
For the first 2 years I worked out regularly at Curves, usually three times a week. I did lose weight initially but it came back. Feeling defeated, my workouts slowed to once or twice a week and sometimes not at all. I got myself back on track, upped my workouts but still felt like something was missing, there really wasn’t much of a physical change in me. After seeing the success of a staff member, Delores, after her 90 days of Curves Complete I decided to give it a try. Well, I am sure glad I did. I learned so much about myself and as I progressed my self-confidence grew.
I must say, I have never been on a diet; never felt like I had a problem with food and considered myself to be a healthy eater. Little did I realize that it wasn’t what I was eating but how much and how often. Typically in a given day by four o’clock I was done, tired, no energy. Curves complete changed that. The program was easy to follow and if you didn’t like a certain food you change it, simple. In saying that it’s not just about the food. There’s a self-awareness that you learn. I knew that I had to change my behavior, that in itself was scary, but so worth it. I learned that I had to practice listening to the healthy voice in my head not the negative. We are our own worst critic and behavior change happens in small steps.
I started Curves Complete in April of 2012. When I completed the 90 days not only did I succeed but surpassed the 20 pounds 20 inches. I lost 32.5 pounds and 32 inches. I am the mom of three boys, 10 and 5 year old twins. To hear them say how proud they are of their mom is priceless. I know how hard it may seem to get to the gym or make time for it. I just kept telling myself that this was for ME and this was MY time. If I ever had a moment of temptation I just asked myself was it worth it and focused on the success I had been having.
I have continued with Curves Complete on my own since then and have lost 68 pounds. I cannot stress how happy I am and the support I received from the staff and my coach, Jean – she is amazing. My journey will continue because not only do I have the fitness habit but a new outlook on myself. I must also thank the members of Curves north who have approached me and congratulated me on my success. I hope my journey will inspire you, I know you can do it.

My struggles with weight began in my late twenties. A few years later when I moved to a new town, I found myself turning to food for comfort and my weight climbed to an all-time high of 200 pounds. My wakeup call came when my 5-year old daughter drew a stick figure of me wearing a giant muumuu. After looking at her picture, I knew it was time to make some healthy changes to feel better about myself. I’d seen a Curves Club in my area and decided to give it a try. Right from the first visit, I loved the camaraderie among the regular members and staff, and felt the 30-minute circuit would work with my schedule. I signed up for a membership on the spot and soon after joined Curves Complete to help me learn healthy eating habits and lose weight***. I didn’t want to overhaul my entire lifestyle. I knew I would have greater success by making small changes that would stick. I started by ordering a side of vegetables instead of fries with my favorite burger and eventually I started craving more fresh food and less junk. I recorded weight loss triumphs in a journal. It helped put setbacks in perspective and served as a reminder of how far I’d come. I became a regular at my Curves Club and relied on the support and encouragement from my coaches and the other club members to stick to my healthy lifestyle. If I was craving sweets and was about to overdo it on dessert, I’d call or text one of them. The quick tips I’d received such as, sprinkle cinnamon on apple slices!’ were more than enough to keep me on track. It was comforting to know that encouragement was always close at hand. I lost 69lbs*** and felt stronger and more confident than I had in a long time. After losing weight, I decided to open my own Curves. It is so rewarding to have the opportunity to bring women together in a supportive environment to improve their fitness, gain strength, manage their weight and build their confidence.
