Beverly has been a professional dieter her entire life...and she's always hated to exercise. When she started Curves she had been attending Weight Watchers for years and was still unhappy with her results. She was certainly a "lifetime" member, but her metabolism was so low that she could barely eat anything without gaining weight. An average menu for a day would be half a banana in the morning, yogurt for lunch or half of a sandwich, and a lean cuisine type of meal for dinner. If she drank a glass of wine she'd gain! Finally after attending Curves 3 times per week and using our Phase 3 permanent results program, Beverly has learned how to maintain and still eat up to 2500 calories a day. All she has to do is follow a disciplined plan for 2 days when she gains a couple of pounds and then she can eat unrestricted for an entire month. My weight loss journey really began June 2003 when my son became engaged. I have been overweight most of my life, but really found myself packing on the pounds after my father died. I gained so much weight that I was tipping the scale at 211 lbs. A friend finally talked me into attending a Weight Watchers meeting in September 2004. With a wedding date set for September 2005, I knew this was the perfect opportunity to lose the weight if I could. I attended Weight Watchers meetings, followed my points and weighed in, but there was something missing. I was losing weight, but I needed to do more. My husband bought me a Curves membership for my birthday. On January 12, 2005 I started my CURVES experience. I love my CURVES in Independence. It is so convenient--I can stop on my way home from work and in 30 minutes my workout is complete and I'm on my way home. The staff is WONDERFUL--they are so encouraging and they really make your workout fun. I enjoy socializing with everyone while working out--the time just flies by and before I know it I'm stretching out and cooling down. Laura has a wonderful facility. She's always decorating and making it so welcoming. I enjoyed earning points and being able to cash them in for t-shirts and whatever. We always have some incentive to work out at least 3 times a week and to continue to lose weight and inches. I was very impressed with the variety of equipment and how clean and comfortable the facility is. I hope to continue to work out 3 to 4 days a week at my CURVES in Independence. I must admit that my CURVES membership was the BEST birthday present that my husband ever bought for me. And my son's wedding was great--and from all the compliments that I received I know that I look GREAT and feel WONDERFUL--JUST LIKE A WHOLE NEW WOMAN!! P.S. Theresa has lost over 90lbs!

  • "Little did I realize what benefits I would derive when I joined Curves."

I would like you to know how happy I am that I joined your Independence Curves. Exercise is something I have procrastinated about most of my life. I have walked and used the treadmill but not on a regular basis. I always thought I didn't need to be involved in a regular exercise program because I never really had a weight problem. However, as I got older I found I was losing my strength and it wasn't as easy to drop a few pounds when I wanted to. I decided it was time to get serious about an exercise program. Little did I realize what benefits I would derive when I joined Curves 4 weeks ago. I recently had my annual physical and learned that my cholesterol was 166, the lowest it's been in a long time. Two years ago my cholesterol was at 180 and at times was above 200. My good cholesterol is now in the normal range which has always been on the low side. Also, my blood pressure was 113/68 - it usually was anywhere from 120 to 140 over 80. I was so delighted to receive this information. I have also noticed improvement in the muscles in my upper arms and abdomen, the varicose veins in my legs have improved, and I am even walking "taller." All of this after attending Curves 3 times a week for only 4 weeks! You have such a nice, clean facility and I have met so many nice ladies there. I like the idea that it is only women and you can work at your own speed. I look forward to further benefits as I continue the program at curves.
