  • 14 June 2011 Curves is much more than just a gym. For me it is a way of staying young and fit and saving medical bills. I joined Curves at the age of fifty-five and have never looked back. I had given up my job as a pre-school teacher. Working with young children and kept me very active, but after giving up work I noticed I was becoming slower and more sluggish and I started picking up weight. Curves had a special on at the time so I thought I would try it out, they allowed me to work out for a week before I decided to join permanently. The staff were always very welcoming and helpful. After the first week I knew I was hooked. I was feeling great. I have seen many women at Curves starting out unfit and overweight and with in a short space of time becoming fit and healthy and looking glowing. Curves can really transform you.

  • 09 March 2011 I joined Curves about 1 month ago because I was feeling really depressed with myself as my weight had ballooned I have NEVER weighed so much in my life before. I exercise 3 times a week; At first I really battled at getting up early and GYM.... Oh my! I knew something had to be done to kick start something as I have already made up my mind that I will not be visiting this weight ever again. I joined the eating plan & didn't find it too difficult to follow, the only thing I had to add were the SNACKS as I didn't normally have those before. Once I had got this sorted my hunger at teh end of the day just hasn't been there. I have been doing this for about 2 weeks and the news today has been fantastic as I have managed to loose 3.5 kgs and 3cm over all. This last Sunday 3 ladies I know well came and asked if I was wearing more make-up than usual. No make-up! I wonder what they saw? Maybe less of a double chin? Since being with Curves I feel so much better in myself and loads more confident too. Thank you ladies if this is how I feel now in the beginning WOW, roll on 18 months time.

  • 24 May 2011 I'm in week 5 of my first time through the eating plan and currently in Phase 3. I'm looking forward to starting the "30 day cycle" again on Phase 1 on again to see how much weight I loose this time around. After 1 cycle I'm down more than 6kg's and I couldn't have done it without the support of the ladies at Curves. After 2 babies in 2 years, shocking weight gain and a stern warning from my GP over high cholesterol, there was no question that something had to be done! I work full time and gave up the gym after my first baby becasue I couldn't justify the time away from her. What a mistake! At 20 weeks pregnant the second time, I was paying for being so heavy and out of shape. That is when I joined Curves and started exercising regularly again. 30 minutes I could do! But after the birth I was feeling terrible, overweight, out of shape, tired and more aches than I knew I had joints. I attended the first weight management session and also got onto the CurvesSmart system. The program was explained to me in a way that was easy to understand, and staff have been a huge support with frequent SMS follow-ups. They never miss a weekly check-in and always have something positive to say to keep me motivated. I found the "Fitness & Weight Management Plan" book very useful for the diet, but also in understanding the workout better and how the two, eating plan and workout, combine to help me on my journey. And it is a journey, because I've got quite a few more kilo's to shed to reach my goal! But I'm already seeing the benefits, my clothes (granted my "fat" clothes, but not my maternity clothes!) are fitting lossely. My energy is through the roof. I used to need a nap just to make it through the day, but now I can work a full day, hit the gym and be home for a pre-dinner romp with my 2 year old. I have the energy to chase my toddler and hold my baby boy, sometimes at the same time. Now I know working out and eating right doesn't take time away from my kids, it's my gift to them so that I have the energy to be a Mom the way they need me, and the way I want, to be. Oh yeah, and I even have a little energy left to be a wife as well! My husband is super supportive, and while he's not real keen on exchange table yet, he is dutifully weighing and measuring and following recipes so that I can stay on the plan. The GP gave me 4 months to get my cholesterol under control or I'll have to start taking daily medication, probably for the rest of my life. I'll find out in August if I've been successful in lowering my cholesterol through the diet and exercise at Curves. Even if I do have to take the medication (high cholesterol is herediatery in my family), I will know I've done everything I can do to be as healthy as I can be. I'm very grateful to the staff at the CBD branch for cheering me on and helping to make this life change such a positive, and fun experience.
